Company History

Cientis Technologies established the CanadianEMR website in January 2004. Initially established as a blog by Dr. Alan Brookstone, a national expert on Electronic Health Records in Canada, Dr. Brookstone continues to lead the company as President and CEO. Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) are synonymous with Electronic Health Records (EHRs), a terminology used in the United States.

The CanadianEMR website has evolved significantly since 2004, with the launch of a rating engine in October 2007 and a continuous series of features being added since the addition of the ratings engine. CanadianEMR now includes EMR comparisons, Vendor profiles, Vendor ratings & rankings, Podcasts, EMR Readiness assessment and a Resource Directory. Two years of effort was expended developing the site functionality, algorithms and logic models seen today. The vision was “to become the most trusted transparent source of information on EMRs for physicians, professional organizations, vendors, system managers and funders”. The CanadianEMR website is now the only national source of trusted user generated information on Electronic Medical Records in Canada.

Cientis Technologies provides technical and consulting services to national organizations such as the Canadian Medical Association and provincial organizations that fund and deploy Electronic Medical Records systems to physicians in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario. In addition, Cientis Technologies has co-marketing relationships with ITAC Health (representing the vendor community in Canada) and COACH (Canada’s national Health Informatics organization).

Cientis Technologies in conjunction with the American College of Physicians (ACP) has launched a new program called AmericanEHR Partners which brings together lessons learned from the United States and Canada in a more advanced and comprehensive community to support adoption of Electronic Records by US physicians.

More than 80% of Americans think the US health system needs fundamental change or a complete overhaul.
